Getting Started with the LIR Portal
Logging In
To log in, use your RIPE NCC Access account. If you don’t have an account, create one using the email address linked to your LIR. Visit RIPE NCC Access to get started.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
For security, 2FA is required for all RIPE NCC Access accounts.
How to Set Up 2FA:
- Try to log in to your account and check your inbox for an email from the RIPE NCC.
- Follow the instructions in the email to download and set up an authenticator app (e.g., FreeOTP, Microsoft Authenticator, or Google Authenticator) or your passkey.
- Use the app to scan the QR code or enter the secret key provided.
- Save your recovery codes in case you lose access to your device.
- Confirm the setup, and you’re ready to go!
With 2FA, you’ll need your password and a code from your authenticator app to log in to the LIR Portal with your RIPE NCC Access Account.
Your LIR Portal Account
Once logged in, you’ll see a menu on the left-hand side. This includes:
- My LIR: Manage your account, billing, users, and more.
- Requests: Make requests for resources or updates.
- Resources: View and manage your IP and AS resources.
- RIPE Database: Update and manage your database records.
- RPKI: Set up and manage resource certification.
Account User Roles
Different users in your organisation may have different roles in the LIR Portal:
- Administrators: Full access to all areas.
- Regular Users: Access to account details, view tickets, General Meeting registration, and training.

Keeping Contact Details Up-to-Date
The RIPE NCC uses the contact details in the LIR Portal to send important announcements to members. Avoid using auto-responder ticketing system emails, as this can cause bounced emails and disrupt communication.
Keeping your contact details and user accounts updated ensures your LIR’s information remains secure and accessible.
Requests and Resources in the LIR Portal
The Requests section in the LIR Portal helps you manage your interactions with the RIPE NCC. Here, you can open and track tickets, request resources, make updates, or transfer Internet number resources.
Tickets
Open a new ticket to contact the RIPE NCC and view your tickets, including:
- Ticket number
- Date opened
- Subject
- Status and last activity
Request resources
You can request the following resources directly through the portal:
- IPv4 allocation (if not already requested)

Upload supporting documents and confirm your request.
Resources
“Resources” allows you to manage your LIR's resources including IPv4, IPv6 and ASNs.
For each resource, you can view:
- Status of resources (example: Allocated PA)
- Netname

My Resources and Sponsored Resources are available to “regular” or “admin” users representing an LIR, as well as users whose RIPE NCC Access accounts that appear on one of the maintainers of a non-LIR ORGANISATION object in the RIPE Database.
RIPE Database
The RIPE Database is a public registry maintained by the RIPE NCC. It contains detailed information about:
- IP address space (IPv4 and IPv6)
- Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs)
- Organisations and people responsible for these resources
Use the RIPE Database tools to maintain accurate information about your resources and contacts. This includes updating person, role, and mntner objects as necessary:
- Manage objects: Create, update, and delete objects in the RIPE Database, such as inetnum, inet6num, aut-num, person, and organisation objects.
- Search and Query: Use advanced search tools to query the database for specific information about IP addresses, AS numbers, or contact details.
The RIPE Database web-based user interface is available to all users.
RPKI
Visit the RPKI dashboard to create your RPKI certificates and ROAs. This will enhance the security of your routing infrastructure. You can see an overview of BGP announcements and ROAs, manage your ROA objects and set up alerts.
- Certificates: Create and manage your RPKI certificates to secure your IP address space and AS numbers.
- ROAs: Generate and publish Route Origin Authorisations (ROAs) to authenticate your routing announcements.
By understanding and utilising the features of the RIPE NCC LIR Portal, you can effectively manage your Internet resources and enhance your network's security.
